Chen’s King Buffet (the old place) went through a large renovation and moving project to become Chen’s Asian Restaurant.  They moved across town and onto Hanover Street, 3 blocks out from the square.

The buffet is gone, but in its place is a wide variety of Chinese dishes, plus Japanese and Thai.  Curry dishes and Sushi are among the new offerings.

With the new website, you can place your takeout orders online.

    Tried this for the first time after moving into the Carlisle area. The “combination fried rice” was not that good. The “crispy Peking duck” was almost tasteless with a lot of skin included, and the shrimp lo mein was just average. We won’t be in a great hurry to go back.

    I called to see if they have any special foods for Chinese New Year (year of the horse) but unfortunately it was just their usual menu. Aja on Spring Road and China Palace on Penrose they also did not celebrate New Year, no duck, no lobster, nothing. Ended up going to Harrisburg to celebrate. I am surprised how little marketing the Chinese restaurants in Carlisle do.

    We ate here last year and the food and the service. This year we returned to find it had really gone down hill. The sushi quality of ingredients was excellent however the chefs need to be trained in proper rolling the rolls were falling apart. I ordered a dish I had last year that was awesome, Thai pineapple Fried rice. Last year it was full of pineapple served in half a pineapple, this year it contained only 4 small pieces of pineapple and was just thrown on a plate. I asked the waitress about this and she said that was how it was served. I sat the plate on the other side of the table as I did not want it this way. The man running the register came to the table and without my saying one word began hollering at me attacking me verbally. Telling me they always served it this way , I explained I had it last year in a pineapple and he continued hollering. I ended it by telling him I refused to argue with him and he could just take it of my bill. The other dish ordered contained shrimp that was either old or very under cooked, We did not complain about this dish as we did not wish to have yet another altercation with the very rude “owner”. Upon check out I asked if he was the owner and his answer was it was family owned. Customer service is beyond poor. Such a shame to see such a good place go so bad. Will never return.

      I think you did the right thing to bring it to the owner/manager’s attention that it was not the dish you had last year, but once ordered then you should pay for it. If management do not offer to take off your check or discount it, then I would not return and would write a poor review.

    Regarding the previous location, it left much to desire, however, I totally LOVE the new location, decorations, and more importantly the menu! My husband and I both enjoy sushi and theirs is fresh and very tasty AND beautifully presented. Chen’s is a place we will return to often.

    WOW! This is not the same restaurant from the old days–we were impressed from start to finish. The location is convenient with its own parking, and the building must have been completely remodeled. Even the bathrooms are elegant, nice (and clean). We were greeted and seated immediately on a Friday night, and drinks were brought fairly promptly. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming. We tried two sushi rolls (spicy tuna, cool with a crisp hint of cucumber, and eel/avocado, buttery and just slightly warm–perfect!). For dinner, my dining partner had the General Tso’s chicken, served with fried rice and broccoli. The sauce was fruitier with more depth of flavor than most I’ve tried, and the chicken had a nice balance of crunch and sauce; it wasn’t soggy. Overall, it was a nice dish, and the fried rice wasn’t junked up with peas and carrots. My entree was the Singapore Mei Fun, delicate noodles stirfried with a little curry, vegetables, chicken, shrimp, egg, and roast pork. The result was a beautifully flavored dish with different textures in each bite. I’d definitely order it again, except I want to try more things from the menu on my next visit. We found the prices to be reasonable, especially with the sushi special they were running. The only thing we didn’t care for was that they served Pepsi products, but that is, of course, a matter of personal preference. We’re looking forward to more visits.

    We never ate at the old place, but the new one is fantastic! The decor is beautiful and my little one is always facinated with the water wall when you 1st walk in. The sushi is always super fresh. I love the website and the ability to order online is terrific! They are always super polite when I go in to pick up my order and everything is always ready to go! We have become regulars!

    Just ate at the new location. Extensive menu, reasonable prices, very nice atmosphere. This is a must try restaurant.

    Ive been going to this Chinese restaurant for a very long time for about five years i have never found it to be bad no bugs and service very nice food is great will keep on going

    I used to think they had the best food but careful…twice I’ve been and seen ants crawling on the wall.

    Same old buffet, however not many customers, so food can sit a long time in warming trays.
